This year marks Joe Fortes’ 25 Year Anniversary, and what better way to celebrate this milestone than with the 8th Annual Slurp & Swirl™, in benefit of the Vancouver Firefighters Charitable Society. Having already raised over $200,000 in net proceeds over the past seven years, Slurp & Swirl™ has proven to be perfect blend of food, wine, and fundraising. This black tie gala will feature yearly favourites (fresh shucked oysters, gourmet canapés, champagne and wine tasting stations), complete with a ‘Balloon Auction’ (where the purchase of your balloon guarantees you an item of equal or greater value), a silent auction, a live auction showcasing art by local Vancouver artists, and several live performances.  

Tickets to the 8th Annual Slurp & Swirl™ on Wed, November 10, 2010 are available in September.  

Kevin Costner was in town this past weekend to perform with his band (Kevin Costner & Modern West) at the PNE, and took in all of his meals (dinner, breakfast, and drinks!) at Joe Fortes. The health-smart actor enjoyed Miso Marinated Sablefish for dinner, classic Steak & Eggs for breakfast, and pineapple juice throughout the evening.

Ocean Wise is a Vancouver Aquarium conservation program, created to help restaurants and customers make environmentally friendly seafood choices. Ocean Wise assists us in making sustainable seafood purchasing decisions, and keeping us current with sourcing seafood options. In turn, we identify these options on our menus, allowing our customers to easily identify the most sustainable options.   

We’re excited to learn that as of this summer, the Ocean Wise sustainability logo can now be found on retail products, namely those of Delta’s Raincoast Trading. Click here to read more about Ocean Wise’s latest efforts.

On the first Wednesday of each month, members of the Joe Fortes staff and our sister restaurant Goldfish Pacific Kitchen head over to the Vancouver Native Health Society to cook up delicious meals for women and children in need.
